When you’re making an electronics project, you need power for it. In some cases, this can just mean attaching a mini USB plug to your development board (Arduino etc.). depending on your project, however, you may need the power or signal lines to go elsewhere, perhaps to a breadboard or another component.
You could cut up a USB cable and plug things in directly, but for a cleaner solution, what is needed is a breakout board. Naturally, Tindie has quite a few. Here are some of the fairly standard boards (shipping is listed by what it starts at to the US):
- Micro USB Breakout by Kinik—fairly standard, $2.50, shipping to Australia starts at $1.50 ($80 shipping to the US).
- Micro USB Breakout by George—all five pins from the micro board, plus the cable shield for grounding. $1.75, $1.00 shipping.
If you just need power, here are a couple other options:
- Micro USB to 3.3V Breakout by Wolfe Electronics—should be quite helpful for use with 3.3V microcontrollers. $4.95, $0 shipping.
- Micro USB to 3.3V and 5V by Arthurguy.Co.Uk—Similar to the previous listing, but with 3.3V and 5V capabilities. £3.22 GBP ($4.00), shipping to UK starts at £2.01 GBP ($17.00 to the US).
Finally, if you need a USB breakout, plus 3.3V power in one package, Tindie’s got you covered there too:
- MicroMini USB Hero by Atomsofttech—Can be fitted with a micro or mini USB conector. $7.95, $2.50 shipping.
- USBTag by Atomsofttech—Similar to the USB Hero, but configured especially for breadboard use. $4.99, $2.50 shipping.
