If you’re been wanting to experiment with nixie tubes, but just haven’t been willing to pull the trigger due to the generally high price, this clock kit may be just what you’re looking for. At $47.50 as of this writing, it’s priced well below what you might expect to pay for other models, and includes everything you’ll need except for a power supply.
Although a protective acrylic covering is available for an additional charge, when assembled, the kit is basically a bare circuit board. This isn’t a big deal in most cases, and may actually be the look you’re going for, but since these tubes operate at 180 volts, extra caution should be observed while using it. On the other hand, the design seems to be just begging for someone to put a beautiful DIY case around it. Given the price, you may actually have some money left over for the materials that you’ll need!
