St. Patrick’s day falls on a Friday this year, which likely means festive shenanigans, such as people dressed as leprechauns, green beer, and dubious claims of Irishness. Perhaps your normal leprechaun suit isn’t really cutting it anymore, and you’d like to change things up a bit this year. One great way would be to embed green LEDs (or even better RGB LEDs) in your outfit, perhaps lining a coat or hat with these little light sources.
On a tight timeline another suggestion is to plot a shamrock outline in green LEDs. PartFusion has done just that with a shamrock kit that lets you hone your through-hole soldering skills with green LEDs and resistors. He’s appropriately based in Dublin, Ireland so you’re unlikely to get the kit in time unless you happen to live down the street.
The circuit is basically current-limited LEDs with a 5V supply. Anyone still snowed in with kids from the recent storms in northeastern US would be wise to raid their parts bin and spin their own green shamrock. If you do, make sure to hit up @tindie with pictures of the project. Otherwise, put in your order and keep this one on hand for next year.
