Video games on a normal 2D screen are fun, and putting the action on a VR headset makes it immersive. You can take things to an entirely new level, however, by using a motion simulator rig to make your body physically pitch, roll, and jump in order to literally feel the experience.
Simulators like this haven’t become common on the consumer market yet, but there’s always the DIY route. If you’d like a head start on the electronics for your build, the AMC1280USB motion controller provides a great way to interface your custom hardware (up to 6 degrees of freedom—DOF) with a computer. It features a variety of input and ouput methods for actuators, and can fit in a drive bay via an enclosure you can 3D print.
Peer this controller in various states of assembly in the first video below, but make sure you check out the second to see a very advanced exercise bike powered by it.

If you’re more of a feet-on-the-ground gamer, Thanos also offers a bartop arcade system outlined in this post, complete with a good old-fashined 2D screen!
