Treaded vehicles, whether used in military, construction, or agricultural applications, can give vehicles an enormous amount of traction off-road. They’re a great solution to stable and reliable robots. If you’d like to add treads to your small robotic vehicle, this injection molded DIY tank tread link/pin package will get you there quickly.
These treads are designed in such a way that they can be held together with standard 1d 1.5 inch nails. Nails simply snap into the link, holding everything securely in place. Each package includes 120 treads, along with the needed nails for the assembly, saving you a trip to the hardware store.
For mounting on your application, 3D printable hub design files are provided in SolidWorks, Fusion360, and STL formats. These can be used as-is or adapted to your design as needed. While not advertised as such, one could see these treads used in other applications, such as a custom conveyor setup or something entirely new.
If you do come up with a cool use for these treads, let us know on Twitter: @Tindie or @JeremySCook. If your robot needs options for solid surface travel, check out this post on Robot Wheel Options.
