There are plenty of DIY kits on Tindie, but some require more skills (and patience) than others. While I’ve written about plenty of them, the Peanut kit certainly stands out by doing something different.
This Arduboy-compatible handheld uses modules instead of small components, which makes it easier to build. It also supports hundreds of games for the Arduboy platform. The kit ships as a single PCB with the shell attached, so you’ll just need to pop it off and solder everything in place.
You won’t need any glue, screws, or 3D printing to finish building the kit. The only thing missing is a battery, due to restrictions in shipping. The elements of the kit also have a premium feel to them, from the OLED screen, to the injection molded joystick for that classic arcade feel.
Add in the piezo speaker, five different button colors, and a gold-plated PCB, and you’ve got yourself a slick looking handheld.
