AVR microcontrollers useprogrammable fuses to select the clock speed and clock source of the popular family of microcontrollers. The problem is that if you set them incorrectly you need a high-voltage programmer to make it right again, and ut’s easy to get things wrong when you’re programming ATtiny fuses. This handy kit allows you to program fuses a vast majority of the time without the need for a computer, software USB drivers, and so on. The nifty new V3.1 edition does includes an advanced mode (MODE3 or Terminal mode), that uses a PC terminal connection.
The ATTINY Fuse Repair Programmer/Fuse Doctor V3.1 is an AVR high voltage serial programmer for programming all fuses, regardless of their state. While it is largely identical to the V2.1 model on Tindie, the aforementioned MODE3 adds a few exciting new features to this version:
- Read the fuse values when your ATtiny device has been corrupted
- Write custom fuse values from the terminal (so long as the device is supported)
- If your device supports high voltage serial programming, but isn’t in the supported list, you can “disable signature verification” which will allow you to enter fuse values that will be programmed even if the device has corrupt signature bytes.
The device provides the user with a green or yellow LED to indicate whether programming was a success. The green LED indicates it was successful, while yellow indicated that there was an error. No computer needed!
