Pi Wars 2022 is fast approaching, and this year’s theme surrounds the exciting technological advancements in agriculture! Open to all ages and experience levels, teams will go up against a series of challenges designed to test their robotics skills and ingenuity. With exciting techie prizes up for grabs, ranging from USB drives to Raspberry Pis to add on boards, there are many reasons to enter this year!
Teams have the task of creating robots powered by a Raspberry Pi, which compete against each other in several non-destructive events. Challenges range from collecting cardboard apples to herding tiny cattle – this agri-tech competition is inspired by the incredible machines controlling the world’s farms!
This year’s competition runs online over a single weekend in July 2022. As submissions are being taken by video, Pi Wars have implemented an innovative system that allows competitors to build arenas at home. With detailed guidance on their website, anybody can make the standardised arenas using very cheap, accessible materials such as cardboard. One of the tasks even involves creating a custom obstacle course, as Flurybots did below!
Over the past few years, Tindie has been very involved in Pi Wars and greatly supports their ingenious ideas! Our own Jasmine Brackett visited back in 2018 and had a great time seeing the competition live. Many sellers on Tindie have also participated in the competition.
Brian from CoreTec won Pi Wars in 2016 and 2017 with his Tiny 4WD Robot, sold here on Tindie, and has written a guide for new competitors. ANAVI’s Leon created a beautiful smiley face prize for the 2020 winners, and Neil from RedRobotics gave a great talk at the conference in 2021.
Typically based in Cambridge, UK, Pi Wars are an ongoing international robotics events organisation with a high reputation for fun, non-destructive competitions. Remember to get your applications in before the 23rd of October 2021, using the Pi Wars application form, and get building!
