Summer is here, and for many, that means finding more ways to keep the kids entertained and yourself sane while school’s out. The FlipIt Drone Battle-Beacons are a great platform for introducing the little ones to indoor drone racing leagues and make it quick and easy to set up exciting game modes. Different functions are pre-programmed on the device, like 2D or 3D racing and Capture-the-Flag, and with some creativity in how you set up the courses – the sky isn’t even the limit!
The beacons have a built-in multi-colored LED that flashes and responds to a drone either flying nearby or bumping into it to activate it- don’t worry, these tough little boxes (and your walls) can handle it! The LED is bright enough to work in all kinds of light conditions and would definitely make for some exciting nighttime racing. Each beacon only needs two AAA batteries and they are sold in pairs, so you can get racing right away with just two or as many as you’d like.

This passion project comes from Bits For Bots, based in Maryland in the US, and was made for indoor drone summer camps run by the maker. There’s some more documentation and instructions on this website, and I’d recommend checking out the maker’s Hackaday page to see some of the other socially inspiring tech projects he’s done.
