If you’d like to illuminate your RC driving experience without adding a lot of weight, then be sure to check out the RC F1 Light Combo from PhatDatRacing. This device, or combination of devices, includes a central 12-LED brake lighting module, along with two smaller 2-LED vertical illuminators. A central controler is also included, which activates the lights in patterns based on throttle input.
The controller connects to your car’s ESC via an integrated y-cable, and is able to read inputs to determine if the car is under throttle, in neutral, or braking. Under throttle, no light is shown, while neutral results in a slow blinking pattern – actual braking is indicated with a much faster 4Hz blink.
The standard set works with 1/10th scale F1 RC hardware, but other options are listed, and one might be able to adapt it to other devices with a bit of tinkering. Lights have been tested with Sanwa, Futaba, and Spektrum receivers, and the combo can work with 2S and 3S setups. The whole rig weighs in at 7g, meaning a negligible effect on weight distribution. The emitted photons are, of course, massless, though PhatDadRacing notes that, “their momentum will turn eyes at the track.
