If you have used small LiPo cells for projects for a while you are probably aware that they can suffer if you discharge them beyond a sensible limit. Guidance varies; many would say discharging down to 2.7V was the limit, but a more conservative approach would be only to ever discharge to 3.0V. It can therefore be frustrating to discover that lots of commercial LiPo protection ICs will still actually take a LiPo down to 2.4V before stepping in and stopping further discharge. This Conservative LiPo Protection Board connected to your LiPo cell will automatically cut further power drain when the LiPo hits 3V, keeping your LiPo cell healthier for longer.
It is supplied fully assembled; you will need to solder this circuit to your battery and the protected output pads to your project. It has nice large pads, well separated at either end of the small PCB to solder to so it should be straightforward for those who are pretty new to soldering. It not only protects against over-discharge but also has protection for overcharge situations as well — cutting the connection to the battery with a detection threshold of 4.28V. When the under-voltage threshold is reached, it cuts the connection to the project and the entire board shuts down. This is sensible so that there is no further drain to your LiPo cell. To re-awaken the board you simply momentarily connect the P- and B- pads on the board.
We think this is a great add-on that maximizes the life cycle of your LiPo cell which makes your projects cheaper and more sustainable in the long term.
