We’ve all been there: you’re in an online meeting and everyone is telling you you are muted. Frantic scrabbling ensues as you’ve already used 5 different conference platforms this week and you can’t remember which keystroke toggles your microphone! Perhaps you need to take a look at this single key USB keyboard designed with this very issue in mind!
It’s essentially a single key macropad and it comes completely assembled and set up with a default set of keystrokes. These keystrokes match up with the mute/unmute function for most of the popular video conference platforms on Windows or MacOS. Teams, Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, Webex, Jitsi etc are all catered for, but it’s also pretty trivial to create custom keystrokes for this device.
Holding down the button whilst inserting the USB keyboard connects the device as a drive and there is a config file in the drive that is easily editable using any notepad-type application or there are well-documented procedures enabling you to record a keypress combination as a macro. Whilst it’s perhaps not recommended, there are also instructions on how to get the device to type a custom string, such as a password.
With all this functionality it’s a pretty affordable way to explore what you might use a larger macro pad for before setting out to build or buy one.
