As I sit here in the UK more rain has fallen out of the sky in the last two hours than I imagine some US states and other parts of the world see in a few months, so it’s hard to imagine needing this WiFi-enabled sprinkler valve controller!
My soggy status aside, this looks like a seriously well-thought-out solution for enabling WiFi control of up to 9 sprinkler valves in an irrigation system. Using an ESP32, this unit is compatible with ESPHome and has numerous useful features. An onboard real-time clock keeps everything in sync and the 1602 LCD display keeps you updated with the system status. It’s compatible with the commonly used 24V AC sprinkler valves and can monitor the total valve current usage. A watchdog relay is on board, and the firmware can be configured to disconnect all the valves if they are overdue for inspection and service. Wrapped up in a neat and functional ABS case the graphic overlay and control buttons make this an unobtrusive yet well-engineered solution that wouldn’t look out of place in any irrigation control system.
If this is your first time coming across the ESPHome project it’s well worth checking out their DIY examples page, as well as irrigating your garden you could be automating your blinds, checking your air quality, or even automating your coffee bean roaster! The list is nearly endless!
