Handheld gaming has always been popular, and recent microcontrollers like the Pico have allowed miniaturized powerful graphics processing with low power requirements. Thus, we end up with awesome products like this PicoBoy Kit which runs games written in MicroPython!
The kit includes almost everything you need to make the finished product, including the PCB, a Raspberry Pi Pico, the display, speaker, buttons, and mounting hardware. The only thing it doesn’t include is the 3D-printed case, although the design files are available if you have access to a 3D printer. Also, the AAA batteries are not included due to shipping regulations. Documentation on assembly is fabulous, with a full-colour PDF showing detailed, step-by-step instructions, so you’ll be up and running in no time!
Using the PicoBoy is simple once assembled. There is a great user guide detailing how to connect to a computer to update the firmware and add new games. The GitHub repo also includes the source code for the included games, serving as examples for creating your own games! Unleash your creative side by making games using their included MicroPython PicoBoy library!
