Collecting and maintaining vintage consoles is a popular pastime but often leads to requiring a wall full of large older displays. Often these require more space and upkeep than the console themselves so many look to making their collection compatible with modern screens. For those with an old 8 Bit Atari console, the GTIAdigitiser from C0pperDragon does just that.
The original output of the Atari 8 Bit home system is pretty poor and when using a more modern TV display you often end up amplifying the noise and aberrations in the signal. The GTIA digitiser sits between the Atari GTIA and the rest of the system and essentially listens to the digital signal generated on the main board. It then, utilising the onboard FPGA, regenerates the digital signal bypassing the analogue video system entirely. In turn, this is up-scaled before being pushed out to your modern RGB-HDMI converter and to your HDMI display.
The results are, well, pretty flawless! If you haven’t played an Atari 8-bit system you might not remember how poor the signal was but with the GTIA digitiser you will get a perfect visual experience. The GTIA digitiser is supplied fully assembled and requires no soldering to install. Straightforward and simple to fit for flawless signal — what’s not to like!
