Flipper Zero has taken the world by storm and as such there is a healthy plethora of Flipper Zero add-ons and doohickies available on Tindie. To be fair, there are so many that a Flipper Zero accessory needs to really stand out to make us notice! This pair of distinct owl-shaped eyes caught our attention, but it isn’t just a decorative PCB, it’s a 940nm IR Blaster Dazzler add-on!
Supplied fully assembled this add-on attaches to your Flipper Zero to dramatically increase the capabilities of its infrared transmission software. The 32 onboard high-intensity IR LEDs offer a much higher power output, projecting a much stronger signal than the built-in IR. This means the Flipper Zero can be used as a highly capable universal control to manage a wide range of devices, from televisions to less obvious air conditioning units, heaters and more.
If you want to go fully custom, another interesting application for IR is in data transfer. Whether you want to emulate protocols like IrDA or experiment with Ethernet over IR, there are a lot of neat things you can do with infrared, especially if you have a sensitive infrared sensor!
When it comes to infrared remote controls, the Flipper Zero scene has lots of people experimenting with IR so it’s not hard to find repositories such as this one with a large database of IR remote codes for you to experiment with. Of course, our caveat should be to remind you to only target devices you own or those for which you have express permission to do so.
The board is powered by the Flipper Zero 5V supply and the PCB is made to dissipate the heat produced by the onboard LEDs, so it’s a nice design from an engineering standpoint as well as a really cool aesthetic. Boost your IR experiments and control devices from ridiculously long distances with this Blaster Dazzler!
