We all love the sounds of the 1980s, whether it be memories of arcade machines or home computers, there’s something magical about the pure tones and digital blips which still resonate today. The YM2413 MSX-Music Module Designed for RC2014 is a module which houses the Yamaha YM2413 OPLL chip, which was used in the MSX-MUSIC standard, across a range of platforms. Let’s check it out!
This unique product will allow you to house this fabled sound chip within your RC2014, bringing the sound of FM synthesis to your machine! This particular chip was made for the MSX system, and was also used in Sega Mark III, Japanese Sega Master System, and arcade machines by SNK and Alpha Denshi – not to mention a range of Yamaha keyboards (PSR-6, PSS-170, PSS-140, PSS-270, and SHS-10 if you’re asking!).
This kit will give you the chance to run MSX music tracker applications as well as supported games! The chip itself supports one user defined instrument and 15 hard coded presets, as well as 5 percussion sounds – which you’ll be familiar with if you have any of the above keyboards!
The YM2413 MSX-Music Module Designed for RC2014 is sold by Dino Boards who are based in Australia. They’ve produced a whole host of RC2014 add-ons and we salute their amazing contribution to the MSX community!
