It’s fair to say that here on Tindie we have lots of choices when it comes to beautifully crafted wearables and jewellery. It’s also true that there’s an amazing range of technology used in these mini works of art. It’s lovely to see something that stands out; not just for aesthetic merit but something that also has some interesting and less common technical aspects like these hybrid supercapacitor-powered earrings.
These aren’t just any supercapacitors, these are a new breed of hybrid supercapacitors that combine supercapacitor technology with lithium battery technology. They have numerous advantages; they are smaller than similarly specified standard supercapacitors and they don’t suffer from degradation of capacity due to charge/discharge cycles, making them an excellent choice for these fabulous earrings.
The earrings’ PCB is populated with 12 red and 12 green LEDs under the control of an ATtiny1616. There are numerous animation modes and cyclical patterns to choose from. The onboard microswitch scrolls through all the options. Whilst we think these are definitely all-year-round wearables, the green and red perhaps fit in well for the upcoming festive season!
Rounded out with the convenience of USB-C charging and a quoted run time of up to 30 hours (depending on which animation is running), these earrings should get you through many a fab event or evening for years to come.
