Air quality is something that affects us all, yet we do little if anything to monitor it and take steps to improve it. Liv Pi is an open source air monitoring platform made by Hackaday.io user AlfredC. Alfred has also done some interesting work with logging the various air quality measurements and using python to send them to a server in real time. The data-logging part of the project uses Python Flask to display any graphs you want on a webpage. The steps to get all of this up and running on your Raspi are all documented over on Hackaday.io.
There are currently two versions of the Liv Pi. The starter kit includes the Liv Pi add-on board, a temp and humidity sensor, and an air pressure sensor. The “expert” kit includes a CO2 sensor but costs quite a bit more. Good CO2 sensors are complicated devices and this complexity comes at a price. Still, CO2 concentrations are a component of air quality and for public places that see a lot of use this will be a welcome addition to your sensor array.
