If you’d like to build an animatronic head — and hey, who doesn’t? — you could start from scratch, figuring out how to move the eyes and mouth. Or you could simply buy the internals from Commonwealth Robotics. The kit includes everything you’ll need to get started, including the head assembly, battery pack, and even a Wii controller.
If you’re wondering what the Wii controller is for, the second video shows how animatronic internals like this can be used on a human as a costume. The controller can then be conveniently held in your hand as you wander around disguised as whatever creature you come up with. “Morice” is featured below, but as the project’s Hackaday.io writeup reveals, its “bone structure” may be slightly different from what is sold on Tindie.
Another interesting note from this project is that the BowlerStudio robotics platform was used to design this robo-skull. It looks like a neat application to check out. The platform lets you design parametrically, so if you need to make changes, that shouldn’t be a problem!
