If you fly quadcopters—or what are commonly, but perhaps somewhat incorrectly—referred to as “drones,” there’s an extemely good chance you’ve also crashed quadcopters.
Personally, I’ve crashed tiny Hubsan X4 and Proto X quadcopters hundreds, perhaps thousands of times, and, much more embarrassingly, a DJI Inspire that didn’t belong to me. The good news is that these quadcopters mostly could be repaired, though the little ones do eventually die.
The little guys are great practice, but if you want to purposefully crash quadcopters into each other, or just want a much larger vehicle to play with that can take some abuse, then look no further than this Aerial Sports League (ASL) certified Hiro airframe. Made out of a clear polymer, you can embed LEDs inside for good visibility, or perhaps even check your wiring without taking it apart.
What really makes it interesting though, is the amount of punishment it can take. Check out the video below to see this type of frame take several types of abuse, climaxing in taking a round—actually two rounds—from a shotgun without destroying it. Granted, it looks like they are using birdshot, but still, quite impressive!
