If you’d like to know where you are in the outside world, then a GPS receiver is probably what you think of, and likely a good choice. On the other hand, these receivers generally don’t work as reliably indoors, so a different methodology needs to be employed. For that purpose, this system, available on Tindie, offers location to within 10cm—or about 4 inches if that is easier for you to visualize.
The base kit is available for $128, which will provide ranging only. In order to make a 2D positioning system, you’ll need 2 additional anchors at $69 each. For 3D positioning, you’ll need a total of 4 anchors, for a total of $335 plus shipping. So it’s not pocket change, but on the other hand, how else will you be able to have your computer know where you are in your house, perhaps playing piano or browsing a document as seen in the video below?
