Lost keys or TV remote controls have been a problem for as long as they have existed. So what is one to do? Putting a light colored or even glow in the dark strip of paint or a sticker has crossed my mind for my TV remote and smartphone, which actually might be helpful if I ever get around to it. On the other hand, if one of them happens to be in my garage or car (stranger things have happened), that may not help.
If you do need to find something that you lose over and over, an electronic tracker would be an ideal solution—like Tile for example. It started as a Kickstarter and has grown to have a huge following. Just the little square piece of plastic on your keys, and pair it with Bluetooth to your phone. As long as you’re withing 100 feet your phone will be able to find it.
Another similar idea is MyTracker which is available from Avrcircuit on Tindie. It boasts a range of up to 400 meters with direct line-of-sight. In addition, MyTracker has a few other interesting features, such as a notification if something or someone is moving away from you. It also has the capability of monitoring a single unit with more than one smartphone. The device runs on a CR2032 coin cell battery for 3-6 months, which is hopefully long enough for you to change it before your next temporary loss.
