Fresh from the labs at Google’s Magenta research facility comes the NSynth Super — a neural synthesizer with the ability to merge and mix multiple sound sources into one. Create unique blends of texture and timbre in one machine… the likes of which have never been heard before!
NSynth Super uses machine learning to analyze any sound, accessing a deep neural network which learns sonic characteristics and builds the bridges between any sounds you load up! Imagine mixing a vocal recording with the sound of a flute with the sound of thunder and a cat meowing and you’re still only part way to finding out how powerful this thing really is.
This open-source experimental instrument gives you the ability to make music from four different sound sources, merging them on an X-Y pad to cross-fade between the tapestry of sounds. It can be played via MIDI, from your computer, or a controller keyboard. Simply choose the sounds, adjust the ADSR Envelope and touch the screen to make some noise!
Squaro Engineering bring you two options for making your own NSynth Super: The PCB alone and the semi-assembled Synth – which has all surface mount components soldered, with some extra components for you to source. These provide a great opportunity to experiment with the NSynth for yourself – here’s what it can do:
