Tindie is launching the “Tindie Flea Market“- a place for the community to clear space in garages and offices for new projects,
Last week we launched “Fetch, Tindie!”, a weekly roundup of amazing things on Tindie. If you aren’t already subscribed, go ahead and click here to get on the list!
Here’s a quick peek at what you might have missed from the newsletter:
The Ultimate Sensor Fusion Solution is a beautiful example of the pride that goes into Pesky Products’ work. Everything you could ever want to know about this project from details of the design to typical results and everything in between can be found on the project wiki. Additionally, the product description gives you a good look into just how much work they put into their designs. Take a look and get one today!
Azzy’S Electronics became a Tindie seller in June of 2015 and is quickly becoming a Tindie top seller. With a great variety of project boards, good pricing, and great customer service, they are what we love to see in a Tindie community member. This neat project is tiny and can be connected to anything conductive (must be electrically connected to the Sense pin on the board). Check it out and pick one or two up!
Have you ever seen a project online and thought “that is really cool, wish I had one of those!”? The EtchABot is exactly one of those projects. Another project with an extensive and helpful wiki, simply add a Pocket size Etch A Sketch and an Arduino Uno and you will be on the road to building your own self-erasing CNC drawing machine!
Don’t skip over this breakout board from Mozzwald. Got a surface-mount component that you want to breadboard with? If it’s in a SOT23/323/353/363 layout, use this handy breakout board!
Tall Dog is a veteran Tindarian. On board since almost the beginning, they have one of the top selling products ever on Tindie with their Teensy 3.1 Breakout. On track to be another great seller, the Switching Breadboard Power Supply is ready for your breadboard projects. Small, efficient, affordable… what more could you ask for?
Chipspeak is a new dog to the Tindie community, across the ocean from Tindie HQ, right outside of beautiful Sydney, Australia. Another project with a tiny footprint (just 19.68 x 17.48 mm!), this little board provides control on analog and digital input output interfaces over restful web services. Don’t rest until you snag one!
In case you missed it, Atmel had an awesome blog post about creating an infrared smart heater for just $15. This post linked to a very popular product on Tindie, the Cactus Micro. The Cactus Micro incorporates the esp8266 with Arduino to make a great IoT board. The project came from a well documented Instructable post from user Yuvaltz that includes Youtube videos and even a photo of their cat enjoying the finished product. It’s well worth a read.
This got me thinking about other potential projects that could involve pets. Maybe setting up temperature alerts for a gecko cage or an automated fish feeder (the feeder is actually on my list of eventual projects to complete). How about a tennis ball launcher for your dog? Have you made any projects for your pets?
At a recent meeting, this link was shared and I found it incredibly interesting: http://documents.latimes.com/la-2013/
Last year, on the “official” day that Marty McFly went to the future, many articles highlighted the differences from the movie and present day. This archived magazine article from 1988 imagines what Los Angeles would be like in 25 years. Here are a few highlighted thoughts:
Recently I went to an electronic parts surplus store here in Silicon Valley and wanted to share the trip, especially if you are local. There is something really interesting about seeing thousands of tiny components neatly organized in one space. Surplus stores are usually hit or miss. You can sludge through aisles of obsolete equipment looking for something relevant and useful for your projects.
Occasionally these are the only places to find that last little part you need. For me, it’s just fun to look and get ideas for future projects.
On one side of the warehouse, they have a long shelf of equipment. At the end of that row is a large table with access to outlets labeled “customer test bench” to test out the pieces.
Additionally, at the front counter they have LED testers so you can check those as well.
and they have plenty of them to test.
In the back of the warehouse there are spools of self-serve wire.
I also found shelves stuffed with bulbs, nixie tubes, and LED strips.
There was no shortage of fuses, connectors, headers, and screws.
And then my personal favorite aisle of switches, buttons, and toggles.
Do you have a place like this near you? What’s your favorite source for electronic components?
2015, the year of exploding hoverboards, the Arduino split, and the Raspberry Pi Zero, has come to a close. Anyone making a new year’s resolution? For me personally, I want to bring more creative ideas to life and not be afraid if they fail. I started early and did my first 3d printing project this week. I’m excited to see what else comes of it.
For those of you who are still thinking of a resolution, Tindie can help. Take a look at these ideas and perhaps pick one for yourself.
Not only do we have an entire DIY category devoted to beginners, one of our best selling products is the I Can Solder Badge. If you’ve never tried it before, it’s a handy skill that’s easy to pick up!
Being on time is a great character trait! Maybe you don’t even need to be more punctual and you just want a sweet new clock. We’ve got you covered!
From the incredibly popular Mooltipass Offline Password Keeper to the p@ss Mark II, many in our community have created projects to keep you more secure. Don’t forget the TrueRNG V2 random number generator!
We have an entire section of Tindie devoted to all things IoT. Get connected and go green with internet-connected sensors and controllers for a huge variety of things.
There is no shortage of super fun projects and products on Tindie. The Automatic Rubber Band Blaster Kit is just one example, plus it’s a great way to use your 3d printer as well!
Want to keep it a simple resolution? Grab a Wireless Indoor Garden Monitor and keep a plant alive and well.

In case you missed our official email this morning (to sign up for our newsletter, click here), here is the official news!
Hi Tindarians!
Today is an exciting day in the life of Tindie. For the last 3 years, we’ve grown Tindie from my apartment in Portland to the world’s largest hardware marketplace. Together we’ve built an amazing community that has supported hardware creators of all ages and helped build hardware businesses all over the globe. However, it is now time for the next chapter.
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we’re announcing Tindie has been acquired by SupplyFrame, the company behind Hackaday. After talking for several months, it became clear that together we could do much more than we ever could apart.
So what does this really mean for everyone? In the near term, few changes will be seen as we integrate the business. Over time, SupplyFrame will begin rolling out improvements we pushed off but can now build with their resources & engineering team. Hackaday will soon have a post up on their ideas and plans as well.
Thank you again to everyone. This has been an amazing ride and we can’t wait to take it to the next level with the SupplyFrame & Hackaday teams. Get ready!
