With Halloween being tomorrow, we thought we’d take a look at these awesome spooky t-shirts available from Digital Fiber! The Michael Jackson Thriller, in particular, is a personal favourite. Even if you’re too old to wear a full costume, you can still have some spooky attire with this cool t-shirt.

If you’re a fan of the man from Krypton, here’s another great choice with the familiar logo lit up with red LEDs! All of the t-shirts made by Digital Fiber are embroidered and use a snap-on CR2032 for power. They continue to work even when, so a bit of rain or a splash is no big deal. They can be machine-washed, and even machine-dried, though for longevity they recommend air drying.

There’s one more creepy option — the Animal Art t-shirt with the very creepy yet wonderfully decorated animal skull. This one is sure to get a few looks, especially worn to a Halloween party! No matter which one you choose, all are quality embroidery and should last a long time. The same seller also sells pre-sewn LEDs as well as touch pads that can be embedded into clothing if you want to make something super cool yourself!

We are approaching that time of the year when lots of Halloween projects abound! While this Ghost Pin Badge appears incredibly cute and friendly we can imagine it making a great glowing accessory to your Halloween attire!

Often when we look at PCB LED badges on Tindie we discuss them in terms of both how they look and also how appropriate they are as a soldering kit. Some people may not have got around to learning the fine art of soldering so sometimes it’s nice to see badges, such as this one, supplied as fully assembled.

This Ghoulish badge is offered in a couple of versions: the base PCB and design are the same, but you can opt between constantly on LEDs or LEDs that blink. Over on the product page, there is a short video showing both options in operation.  On the reverse of the badge PCB, there is the badge pin clip, the battery holder and a small on/off switch. They aren’t supplied with the battery but the badge uses the commonly available CR2032 coin cell. Make sure you check out the other products on the Tech2Wear shop as there are a few badge designs for both Halloween and indeed that mid-winter festive season that it’s far too early to mention yet!

Fresh off the press are these amazing spiderweb earrings that are available in three different colours — Toxic Green (pictured), Ice Blue, and Orange. With over 50 hours of run time from a pair of 2032 batteries, these shine brightly enough to be seen during the day, but not so brightly as to blind people at your midnight Halloween party. There are numerous occasions for which a badge is the perfect accessory. Among all of them, however, Halloween must be the best. As someone who has been watching classic horror films lately, like a series about a certain Friday near the middle of the month, this Killer Badge kit immediately caught my eye.

The badge features 12 LEDs and sound, all driven by an ATtiny1604 micro that you can also hack using the Arduino IDE. The kit requires soldering and includes some 0603 SMD parts.

Therefore, a fine soldering iron tip, tweezers, and some soldering flux should be in your arsenal. Since the microcontroller comes pre-programmed, you just need to worry about soldering and you’re good to go.

Don’t forget to grab a CR2032 battery as well, since those cannot be shipped internationally. Happy Halloween!

Fall has finally arrived, and as a massive fan of both horror films and games, Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. We’ve all seen electronic takes on fun designs, but the dancing skeleton is perhaps one of the most iconic, right alongside the cackling witches screeching bats that hang from front doors.

Billy Bones is a kit that “dances” and laughs when exposed to light. It comes as a single PCB with mouse bits connecting the separate parts. Using jump rings, you can connect the limbs to the torso for ghoulish dance moves you can see in the video below.

The magic that makes it dance is thanks to an off-center weight on a DC motor. A laugh track stored on the PIC 12F1840 microcontroller plays back at varying speeds when the LDR sensor is triggered.

A pair of glowing eyes and the simple requirement of two AAA batteries rounds out this fun and spooky Halloween decoration.

So once again you’ve put off your Halloween hack and will have to wait until next year to present your latest animatronic gizmo to the neighbors. Or will you?

The best Halloween props and installations are really about creativity. If you have a good idea there’s still time to make it happen, as long as you get a little bit of help with the execution.

For a head start on something spooky, this kit features a motion sensor, along with RGB LEDs and an MP3 player module to make your skeleton, jack-o-lantern, or glitching robot light up and say “hello” to your guests. You’ll need to provide an Arduino board to tie everything together per these instructions, as well as a micro SD card and the actual device to be “spook-ified.”

With motion, sound, and an Arduino at hand this is a great start for just about any idea. Just last week I covered several different motor options in a guide that will point you in the right direction to make that skeleton skull swivel back and forth too. Change out the audio, wire in more LEDs, and you can move a coffin lid that reacts to the motion sensor being triggered. See where I’m going with this?

While it looks quite scary in the video below, this set of components could easily be put to use in a more inviting configuration. Perhaps Santa Claus would like to say “ho-ho-ho” while Rudolph’s nose lights up, or maybe your robot just needs to be a little more social!

Soon we’ll be heading into the season where we have several holidays in quick succession, and to a greater or lesser extent we all get involved in our own way. In order to get everyone in the spirit, check out these lighting solder kits from Low Voltage Labs:

Ghost Kit

The Ghost PCB kit, which lights up a pair of flashing green LED eyes on a white ghost-shaped PCB. This would certainly work well for Halloween!

Pumpkin Kit

The Pumpkin PCB kit, which lights up a single, but very large, 10mm flickering LED. It’s shaped like a pumpkin, and the coin cell battery holder is at a right angle to the PCB. This allows it to stand up, perhaps on top of an actual pumpkin as pictured here. It would also make a good alternative to a candle in a Jack-O-Lantern, and could even work well for your Thanksgiving feast!

Snowman Kit

Finally, this snowman PCB comes with an LED nose, and two flashing RGB LEDS for buttons. Perfect as a stocking stuffer or Christmas ornament!

All of these look, if I’m allowed to say it, adorable. They would be a great intro to soldering for kids, or a semi-DIY gift for those that would rather have something assembled.

They’re great examples of taking a simple circuit board that might appeal only to those technically-minded, and turning it into something fun and appealing to a everyone.
